In fine
weather, the Ourika Valley is the favorite destination of holidays and getaways
of the inhabitants of Marrakech. Freshness contrasts with the oppressive heat
of the imperial city while its bucolic setting allows an escape from the urban
frenzy.
Interesting vacation ideas
After
crossing the fertile plain of Haouz and its many orchards planted with citrus
and olive trees, they quickly come near the banks of the Oued Ourika with a
background the towering peaks of the Atlas. At km 34, we succeed in Douar
Tnine-de-l'Ourika. This charming little town is a hub of the region because of
its souk. Every Monday, people from neighboring hamlets meet there to negotiate
their precious crops, buy the necessary and simply talk about latest news from
the region. All in an indescribable atmosphere that mixes cries of barkers,
caps carts pulled by donkeys and a good mood.
Continuing
his journey along the Ourika valley, one is struck by the banks of the Oued
which grasslands are generously shaded by poplars and other little usual
weeping willows in this latitude. There is enthusiasm for this multicolored
landscape that blends perfectly the ocher of the earth and surrounding
greenery.
Family vacations spot
Further
along the road, so we were not tempted by the attractions offered by the
Oukaimeden, the village Arhbalou (ideal for family vacation) tries to seduce us
with its multitude of small restaurants installed along the water. Located at
1500 m altitude, during the long hot season of Marrakech the vacation village
is a tempting stop for families looking for a little freshness. The air here is
pure but also much cooler than in the plain of Haouz (10 to 15 ° less).
Continuing our way, we will reach the 68 km to the village of Setti Fatma which
is ideal as a vacation spot too.
Setti Fatma and its 7 waterfalls: getaways, hiking and adventures
Terminus forced to our climb to the peaks of the Atlas, the village of Setti Fatma is a compulsory and sporting break during a trip to the Ourika Valley. From here begins a series of more or less difficult hikes. The most popular is undoubtedly the discovery of the 7 waterfalls. After negotiating the services of a local guide, we will cross the wooden bridge over the river before embarking on a slippery climb along the banks of a small stream. The less athletic simply admire the first waterfall and the breathtaking views of the valley and the massive Yaghour; while others will go for a hiking more than 2 hours to discover these 7 famous waterfalls. The bravest and most experienced will jump to climb Mount Toubkal, which rises to an altitude close to that of Mont Blanc, or leave in search of the famous rock engravings of Mount Yaghour.
Other
attractions in the Ourika Valley
In addition
to the raw beauty of this beautiful valley, we gladly let tempted by the new
attractions "ecotourism" that bloom in the valley. Foodies will go
their knowledge of spices to Safranière of Ourika, while lovers of scents will
be seduced by the rich smell of bio-aromatic garden of Ourika. Except you
prefer not visit the Berber eco-museum.
