The Casbah
or Kasbah of Agadir is the most majestic and the most beautiful site of Agadir.
It is a fortress overlooking the city and the beach from a height of 236 meters,
and it was built by Mohammed Ech-Cheikh (founder of the dynasty Saadian) in
1540 to lead the office of Agadir and to protect it from the Portuguese
attacks. The place was reinforced two centuries later in 1752 by Moulay
Abdallah who set up a garrison of two thousand men. After the 1960 earthquake,
the fortifications were rebuilt on their old brands and only the front door was
kept to the authentic.
During their promenade, visitors will not forget that this fortress contained the oldest neighborhood of Agadir, at the time made up of narrow streets and cheerful residents. This site is a perfect place to admire the city from all angles and the sunsets over the bay.
