The Casbah
or Kasbah of Agadir is the most majestic and the most beautiful site of Agadir.
It is a fortress overlooking the city and the beach from a height of 236 meters,
and it was built by Mohammed Ech-Cheikh (founder of the dynasty Saadian) in
1540 to lead the office of Agadir and to protect it from the Portuguese
attacks. The place was reinforced two centuries later in 1752 by Moulay
Abdallah who set up a garrison of two thousand men. After the 1960 earthquake,
the fortifications were rebuilt on their old brands and only the front door was
kept to the authentic.

Agadir
The city of
Agadir located in southern Morocco, well after Casablanca and Marrakech. The
Berber name of the city means "fortified granary" and the origin of
the name is uncertain. The history of Agadir began during the 16th century when
the city breaks free as a port. The trade is around following commodities:
linen, sugar, skins or wax. With the emergence of the port of Essaouira, Agadir
site declines gradually. At 1960, a symbolic date of Moroccan living memory, a
terrible earthquake destroyed nearly the entire city and caused 15,000 deaths. Agadir
has been rebuilt 2km south and tripled its population.
